A tour bus crossed the center line, leading to a multi-vehicle accident.

Mojave Desert Bus Crash Kills One, Injures DozensThis week, a tragic accident in the Mojave Desert once again highlighted the potential danger of collisions involving coach buses.  While traveling by bus is generally safe, when a bus is involved in an accident, the potential for serious injuries and even fatalities is high due to the size of the vehicle and the number of people aboard.  That is the case in this week’s accident on Highway 58 in the Mojave Desert.

The tour bus was carrying 26 people from Fresno to Las Vegas, traveling eastbound on state route 58.  The bus crossed over the double yellow line on the highway and struck two oncoming cars—a Subaru and a Chevrolet.  A person in the Subaru was declared dead at the scene of the accident.  Two people in the Chevrolet were hospitalized in critical condition.  Everyone on the bus experienced either major or minor injuries as a result of the accident.  Nine had life-threatening injuries, while 17 of the patients had “delayed” injuries.   The injured passengers were taken via ambulances to hospitals in Victorville, Loma Linda, and San Bernardino.

According to local authorities, all three vehicles involved in the crash appeared to have overturned at least once.  All of the vehicles were essentially totaled, and one person had to be cut out of one of the passenger vehicles.  Investigators do not suspect speed, alcohol or drugs, or weather affected the accident. It is possible that driver inattention, distraction, or even drowsiness contributed to this tragic collision.  The accident occurred in a fairly remote location between Barstow and Mojave, where serious vehicular accidents are not uncommon, according to local authorities.

The tour bus was labeled “U-best holiday,” and was registered to A&F Tours, Inc. in West Covina.  Records from the U.S. Department of Transportation show that the company has no record of accidents within the past two years.  In the coming days, weeks, and months, more information will surely be revealed about the driver, the cause of the accident, and other details about how this crash occurred.

Bus accidents can result in serious injuries and sometimes even deaths. An experienced bus accident attorney can help people injured in a bus accident recover for their losses by thoroughly investigating the cause of the accident and determining the proper party to file a claim against, such as the company that owned the bus and/or that hired the driver.
