A construction worker helping to build a new facility for FedEx in Oceanside was killed after a concrete drainage slab fell on top of him on the morning of Tuesday, October 13th. The victim has been identified as Kenneth Schultz, 56, of Oceanside. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at a construction site at Old Grove Road and Avenido del Oro.

According to authorities, Schultz was using a hydraulic hand-held machine when a nearby headwall collapsed on him. Other workers at the site rushed to his aid, using a crane to lift the slab off of Schultz, but the actions came too late. Schultz was pronounced dead at the scene. The construction company, ARCO National Construction Company, has been investigated at least three times in the past two and a half years.

The California Occupational Safety and Health department is investigating the incident.
