Two men were killed in a head-on collision around 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29th in Lakeland Village. Alcohol appears to be a factor.

William Messemore of Lake Elsinore, 40, was driving a Toyota Tacoma southbound on Grand Ave. at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a Dodge Neon driven by Matthew Camilli, also of Lake Elsinore, 25, who was stopped, facing northbound waiting to turn left on to Adelfa St. Both drivers were killed in the head-on crash. A passenger in the Tacoma was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Witnesses estimated that the Tacoma driven by Messemore was traveling around 70 to 80 mph. One witness told police that he had seen the two men in the Tacoma at a nearby thrift shop. The witness also noted that they were holding beer cans and appeared heavily intoxicated.

CHP has noted that there was nothing Camilli could have done to avoid the crash.
