2006-2010 Toyota Corollas could be investigated for unintended acceleration, according to the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). This announcement follows owner complains of “low-speed surging”. This investigation could affect about 1.69 million vehicles.

The new investigation is not related to the previous recalls for unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles. Those recalls affected over 10 million vehicles back in 2009 and 2010, leading to a $1.2 billion penalty. Subsequent studies concluded that the 2010 problem were the result of mechanical flaws in the vehicles.

It is currently unknown what could happen from the new investigation into Toyota Corolla vehicles. At this time, there have been 163 reports of sudden acceleration. Many of the victims of unintended acceleration claim to have evidence that their brakes were applied while the car was accelerating.
