People rent out party buses for a number of functions, including bachelor or bachelorette parties, birthday parties, concerts, and other events. Most party buses have LED lighting, unique seating arrangements, state of the art sound systems, and may include over the top extras like dance floors and poles.
Most people hire a party bus because they are going to be drinking and they do not want to worry about who is going to drive. Those who hire these buses should be able to relax and enjoy themselves, but unfortunately bus accidents can put an abrupt stop to the fun. Keep reading to find out more about these accidents and what you can do if you are involved in one. Then contact The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker at 800-333-0000 for a free legal consultation.
Examples of party bus accidents
Accidents on party buses can and do happen. One example from 2012 includes a 25-year-old woman who fell out of the door of a moving party bus. She was run over and the accident proved fatal for her. Another accident involved a 16-year-old varsity tennis player coming back from a birthday party in Manhattan Beach in a double-decker party bus. He stuck his head out the top, hit is head on an overpass, and died of his injuries several days later.
These are just two examples of party bus accidents but the number of accidents has risen across the country partially due to an increase in party bus carriers. Just in the state of California, party bus carriers have gone up by more than 3,000 when compared to 2009 levels. Between 2009 and 2013, 22 party bus accidents were reported, 18 of which involved a fatality. 48 people were injured by party bus accidents in that timeframe.
Causes of party bus accidents
The most common cause of party bus accidents is people falling off the bus. In fact, of the 22 accidents mentioned above, ten of them involved falling out of the bus. In most cases, the victim either hit or fell on the exit lever, which opened the door that they then fell out of.
Other causes of party bus accidents including passengers sticking their heads out of buses, other vehicles on the road driving recklessly or negligently, buses not being properly maintained, and party bus drivers who are distracted or under the influence.
