A man who killed two women after he caused a rear-end crash when he looked down at his phone pleaded no contest and was sentenced to one year in county jail. Nicholas Tognozzi, 30, of Rohnert Park, was expecting a text from a friend and glanced at his phone for no more than three to five seconds. In that minimal amount of time, he failed to see stopped traffic ahead. Tognozzi slammed into an occupied vehicle, killing Susan Hufford, 53, and Sharon Hufford, 74, both of Santa Rosa. The crash occurred on March 15th in Santa Rosa.

Tognozzi originally faced up to just over 12 years if he was convicted of the original charges with enhancements.
