A 17-year-old girl was jogging Monday night when she was struck and killed by a passing car in Santa Clarita on the evening of Monday, August 18th. The girl was identified as Jennifer Stift, a high school senior attending Saugus High School. The driver of the vehicle that struck Stift is also a high school senior attending Saugus. The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near Golden Valley Road and Samantha Court.

A 17-year-old male classmate of Stift’s was driving a 1989 Toyota Celica when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck Stift. Stift was taken to a nearby hospital, but was unable to survive her injuries.

Authorities do not believe that speed, drugs, or alcohol were involved in the accident, and are continuing to investigate the incident. Counselors were available to students at Saugus High School on Tuesday, and a vigil to remember Stift was held at the school Wednesday.
