A collision in the Sunland/Sylmar area killed one and injured five on the night of Monday, December 15th. None of the victims appeared to have been wearing seat belts. The crash occurred on the Foothill Boulevard bridge over Big Tujunga Creek.

Around 8:15 p.m., a Toyota 4Runner carrying six people drove into oncoming traffic on the Foothill Boulevard bridge near Foothill Place, striking a pickup truck. The driver of the 4Runner was killed in the crash, one of the passengers in the 4Runner suffered critical injuries, and the four other passengers suffered moderate injuries. None of the occupants in the 4Runner were wearing seat belts. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

Authorities were unsure whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, but believe that speed was likely a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
