Studies Show That School Buses Offer the Safest Form of Travel to School – But They Are Not 100% SafeStudies and statistics are clear: there is no safer way to get a child to and from school than to put them on a school bus. That said, this does not mean that buses are 100% safe. School bus accidents can and do happen. If you have been injured in a school bus accident, or a loved one has, you can contact The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker at 800-333-0000 for a free legal consultation.

One Example of a Bus Accident

There was a recent bus accident in which everyone was lucky in that there were no injuries at all. It involved a black Ford Mustang that hit a bus from behind. The car was partially under the bus when the ambulance arrived, and the driver was taken to the hospital. Thankfully, it turned out that his injuries were minor, and there were no injuries on the bus.

According to police, it does not appear that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the collision, but they do appear to have been speeding.

Interesting Statistics on School Bus Accidents

Many people are surprised to learn that school buses are the safest way to get students to and from school because most buses lack seatbelts and other safety features you would find in most cars. That said, a person on a school bus is eight times less likely to suffer injury or lose their life in a traffic accident compared to a person riding in a car.

What Makes Buses So Safe?

First and foremost, a school bus driver is required to have a special license and training to drive kids to and from school. Second, buses have safety lights, flashers, and other aids that make them much more visible. In fact, this is why most buses are bright yellow. School bus drivers also are not allowed to speed and stop at all railroad crossings.

What to Do if Your Child is Injured in a School Bus Accident

Even with all of the above, it is important to remember that there is no such thing as a vehicle that is 100% safe – including buses. If your child has suffered an injury either while riding a bus or as a pedestrian or bike rider, we recommend contacting a local personal injury attorney for help.
