Seven people were killed and an additional 38 were injured, many critically, after a horrific tour bus crash on Highway 38 near Yucaipa on the evening of Sunday, February 3rd.

The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Highway 38, north of Yucaipa and below Forest Falls. The driver of the tour bus reported having brake problems coming down the winding, mountain highway. The bus, carrying 38 passengers, rearended a sedan and flipped over, also hitting a pickup truck towing a trailer. The bus rolled over the truck, crushing it. The sedan had three occupants and the pickup truck had one. All seven fatalities appear to have been bus passengers.

Everyone involved in the crash suffered injury, with 17 people critically injured. 27 victims were taken to local hospitals, including five victims to Loma Linda University Medical Center, and four victims each to Redlands Community Hospital and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Six of the victims were listed in critical condition.

Details are still emerging from the accident. The brake problems on the bus are being investigated. Highway 38 remained closed as of Monday morning.
