A recall has been announced for two popular canned tuna brands, Bumble Bee Tuna and Chicken of the Sea, with more than 1.5 million cans of chunk light tuna in water/oil affected by the voluntary recall. A retailer in Texas also recalled more than 10,000 cans on the same fear. A routine inspection uncovered a malfunctioning piece of equipment that may have caused the product to be undercooked, posing a risk of contamination that could cause serious health problems.
No illnesses have been reported. The affected cans of tuna include can be found on the manufacturer’s respective websites. For Bumble Bee, the affected products can be found here. For Chicken of the Sea, the affected products can be found here. Customers who purchased the affected products can return the product to the store it was purchased from for a full refund.
Companies taking proactive measures to recall potentially dangerous products should be lauded for their commitment to public safety, especially when other companies have shown willful disdain for public safety.
