Southern California experienced a major winter storm last night and into this morning, February 20th. Snow was expected throughout the the area at elevations as low as 2000 feet overnight. Numerous roads were closed overnight due to the weather, including the I-5 Freeway through the Grapevine, which reopened around 9:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Other major highway closures Tuesday night and Wednesday morning include the I-15 freeway between Barstow and Victorville and 35 miles of California Route 58 between Bakersfield and Los Angeles. Authorities reported that there were no accidents on Route 58, but the closure was simply a precaution due to the weather. If you are planning to drive north out of Southern California today, be sure to check if your route is open.
