An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash in Torrance after a car collided with his bike on the afternoon of Sunday, September 7th.

An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash in Torrance after a car collided with his bike on the afternoon of Sunday, September 7th. The police officer was identified as 24-year-old Erick Alcaraz, of Carson.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Western Avenue and 234th Street in Torrance. Alcaraz was riding south on Western when a Kia driven by a 53-year-old woman attempted to turn left onto Western from 234th. The Kia slammed into Alcaraz’s motorcycle. Emergency response was summoned to the scene, but Alcaraz had sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of the Kia sustained minor injuries.

Western Avenue was closed for nearly five hours for investigation and cleanup.
