A Lancaster pastor was killed by a suspected drunk driver driving on the wrong side of the 14 Freeway early in the morning of Saturday, June 22nd. The crash occurred in Acton near Escondido Canyon Road.

Dr. Manard Giles, 77 of Lancaster, was driving home from a church function in San Diego with two passengers. Giles was driving his Chrysler 300 north on the 14 Freeway when he was hit head-on by a Toyota Tundra driven by Bradford Pate, of Burbank. Before the crash, Pate was traveling south in the northbound lanes. Giles was pronounced dead at the site of the collision. Both of Giles’ passengers suffered serious injuries, with one passenger being airlifted to a local hospital in critical injuries.

Pate was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence. This is the second major car crash involving wrong way drivers in the area in under a week.
