You may have heard that the 4th of July is one of the most dangerous times of year for California residents but how true is this? At The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker we do not yet have stats for 2018’s 4th of July celebrations but a look back at years gone by gives us a good idea of the truth: The rumors are true. 4th of July can be a very dangerous time of year. If you were injured in an accident during 4th of July – or any other time of year – then we encourage you to contact The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker at 800-333-0000 for a free legal consultation.

It’s not just the 4th of July that’s so dangerous

According to one study done by a major insurance company, the highway deaths around the 4th of July are shocking. They looked at the four days around the 4th of July and found that more than 40% of all fatal car accidents involved drunk driving. When you consider both how many people are drinking and how many people travel on this holiday, it is easy to see how dangerous it can be to travel during this time of year.

There are more travelers over 4th of July than you may guess

Stats show that more than 37 million people travel 50 miles or more over the Independence Day holiday. They may be going to the beach, they may be camping, or they may be traveling to see friends and family. Pair that with the fact that in most of the country, it is also the week that sees the largest alcohol purchases. Once again, when you compare these two things it is not hard to see why it is such a dangerous time to travel.

Drunk driving is not the only concern

This insurance group has been clear that while drunk driving is an issue, it is not the only cause of an increase in deaths and personal injuries. The Consumer Products Safety Commission also points out that fireworks are responsible for many injuries as well. Burns are likely, most commonly to the hands and ears. In fact, there are about 250 firework-caused burns during the average 4th of July week. These burns can be minor or they can be life threatening.
