The southbound Interstate 5 was closed near Camp Pendleton after a chain-reaction crash, which involved a big rig carrying propane on the morning of Friday, June 14th. The crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. and spilled approximately 20 gallons of fuel on the freeway.

The crash involved several big rigs in line for the weigh station between San Clemente and Oceanside. Three trucks were stopped in the slow lane when another truck driver was unable to stop in time, colliding into them. The crash pushed another truck across all lanes, effectively shutting down the entire southbound freeway.

Drivers of the big rigs reported minor injuries. Authorities are continuing to clean up the scene of the accident. Two southbound lanes were reportedly opened around 9:45 a.m. CHP believes that traffic will be slow for quite some time, so be prepared if you’re traveling south on Interstate 5 today.
