A 25-year-old man from Garden Grove is in critical condition after exiting his vehicle to assist with a crash he witnessed on State Route 101 in Ventura early Sunday, August 17th. The man was struck by a passing vehicle and run over by another vehicle. The incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. near the Telephone Road off-ramp.

The bizarre chain-reaction incident began when a Chevy Avalanche struck a guardrail, hit a streetlight, and finally the center divider before coming to a stop. The driver of the Avalanche immediately abandoned the vehicle. Not knowing that, a passenger in a vehicle that passed the crash stopped and attempted to cross the highway to assist any injured victims in the Avalanche.

Unfortunately, the man was struck by an Infiniti M35 while attempting to cross the highway and fell into the middle lane. The Infinit was then struck by another vehicle who could not avoid a collision. The second car ran over the man whom had fallen in the middle lane. The victim was stabilized at the scene and taken to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevy Avalanche was never found. The 101 South was closed for about three hours after the crash. All of the incidents remain under investigation.
