The most exhausted employees

According to research by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the following occupations had the highest rate of sleep-deprived employees:

  • Operators of switchboards and other forms of communication
  • Nurses, home health aides, and psychiatric aides
  • Workers in the rail transportation industry
  • Workers in the extraction industry include earth drillers, explosives workers, mining machine operators, and others.
  • Operators of plants and systems

These aren’t the only occupations that cause weariness, but they are some of the most frequent.

There are several reasons why certain positions cause fatigue

You might be wondering why these exact poses cause so much weariness. The answer is that shift workers who are compelled to work long hours and/or at night may have their circadian rhythms disturbed. The circadian rhythm functions as the body’s internal alarm clock, affecting hormone levels, digestion, temperature, and attentiveness, among other things.

These problems are so widespread that they’ve been given a name: shift worker disorder. It can have major health repercussions for employees, but it can also have disastrous consequences in rare situations. A railway conductor, for example, may lose their capacity to make rapid choices or concentrate if they are obliged to work long hours and/or overnight. They might even doze off. Any of these problems might result in a fatal train collision.

Shift Worker Disorder can have a slew of negative consequences

Worse still, shift worker disorder can have a wide range of negative consequences. This includes longer response times, worse cognitive capacity, and more work mistakes overall. According to a research published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, this is the case.

The Center for Injury Epidemiology also discovered that those who work several jobs receive 40 minutes less sleep on average than people who only work one job. This may not seem like much, but when you realize how much it adds up over the course of a week, month, or year, it becomes clear.
