The tragic bus accident on California 38 near Yucaipa on Sunday, February 3rd has claimed its eight victim today, February 6th. The latest victim to have been killed in the crash was the driver of the pickup truck the bus crushed.

The eighth victim has been identified as 72-year-old Fred Bailey Richardson of San Bernardino. He was pronounced dead at Loma Linda Medical Center this morning at 6:39 a.m. Richardson was driving a truck towing a trailer embossed with “Richardson Landscaping Maintenance” when it was struck by the out of control bus. Details from the bus crash continue to be released by authorities as they become available.

Among the deceased were three members of one family. Guadalupe Olivas, 61, her daughter Elvira Garcia Jimenez, 40, and Victor Garcia, 13, all of San Diego were of three generations. The other four victims were identified as Adriana Arce Hernandez, 38, Rubicelia Escobedo Flores, 34, Mario Garcia Santoyo, 32, and Liliana Camerina Sanchez Sauceda, 24, all of Tijuana, Mexico.

Occupants of the bus have reported that prior to the crash, the bus driver had told passengers that the brakes of the bus had failed. The owner-operator of the bus had failed numerous safety inspections over the past two years. The bus is owned by Scapadas Magicas of National City and was leased by InterBus of Tijuana. InterBus has issued an apology on behalf of the victims.
