A 30-year-old Fontana man was driving a stolen car when he was killed in a head-on collision with another driver suspected of driving under the influence early Wednesday, August 14th. Salvador Aldape Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe Martinez may also have been under the influence at the time of the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash occurred just before 1 a.m. Wednesday morning in Fontana after Martinez’s stolen Honda swerved into oncoming traffic on Merrill Avenue east of Beech Avenue, striking a Nissan driven by David Joseph Knauss, 53 of Bloomington. Knauss was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence.

Authorities later discovered that the Honda driven by Martinez was reported stolen.
