One person was killed and eight more injured when a woman fleeing the scene of an accident at a high rate of speed slammed into a minivan carrying two adults and four children, causing a rollover crash in North Hills.

One person was killed and eight more injured when a woman fleeing the scene of an accident at a high rate of speed slammed into a minivan carrying two adults and four children, causing a rollover crash in North Hills. The woman, identified as 20-year-old Saidy Yansiry Samayoa, was charged with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of a drug, hit-and-run, reckless driving, and driving without a valid driver’s license.

The fatal crash occurred near the intersection of Haskell Avenue and Parthenia Street. According to authorities, Samayoa was driving a 2000 Toyota 4Runner when she performed an illegal U-turn near Sepulveda and Parthenia and caused a crash. She fled the scene of this crash. The other vehicle involved in that crash followed Samayoa attempted to to get the license plate number of the vehicle, but backed off as Samayoa took off at high speed. The 4Runner then slammed into a Toyota Sienna with such force that the minivan overturned, landing on its roof. Several of the minivan’s occupants were ejected.

The injured victims were taken to local hospitals. One of the adults in the minivan did not survive his wounds. Two children in the minivan suffered critical injuries. Samayoa herself was suffered a broken arm and internal injuries. Passengers in the 4Runner were also injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
