Four days after experiencing a debilitating engine room fire, the Carnival Triumph cruise ship is expected to arrive in port this evening. 3,143 passengers and 1,086 crew members have been stuck aboard the ship in appalling conditions after the engine room fire knocked out the much of the ship’s electrical systems, including the ship’s sanitation and propulsion systems. Passengers have reported raw sewage in the hallways and even running down the walls.

Due to the unsanitary conditions, illness could spread rapidly on the ship. Experts have warned that passengers should remain extra vigilant over the next few weeks after they exit the ship.
