A man identified as Brandon Orozco, 28, of Whittier, was killed Monday, September 30th, when the utility vault he was working on suddenly electrified and caught fire.

A man identified as Brandon Orozco, 28, of Whittier, was killed Monday, September 30th, when the utility vault he was working on suddenly electrified and caught fire. The rest of the utility contractors at the location escaped injury.

The workplace accident occurred at 12:17 p.m. in Huntington Beach. Orozco and his team were employed by CAM Contractors and were working at the utility vault located at Tisbury Circle and Mistral Drive. CAM Contractors was hired by Southern California Edison (SCE) to perform maintenance.

First responders arrived on the scene only seven minutes after the accident occurred. After the fire was extinguished, rescue crews had to wait for SCE to cut power to the vault before entering. Orozco’s body was discovered when rescue workers entered the vault.

The accident remains under investigation.
