A pregnant woman in Martinez was killed after a gravel truck overturned onto her car in her own driveway, on the afternoon of Tuesday March 24th. The woman was identified as Lindsey Combs, 32. The construction crew was working on a new sidewalk outside her home near Shell Avenue and Pine Street.

According to authorities, Combs was asked to move her car away from the construction project. When she got into her car, a gravel truck, carrying about 20 tons, tipped over after its load shifted, falling on Combs’ vehicle. Construction workers rushed to free her from the vehicle, but were unable to rescue her in time.

The construction company, JJR Construction of San Mateo, was under contract with Martinez to demolish the current sidewalk and build a new one. The gravel trailer involved in the incident had recently passed a safety inspection and the driver was carrying less than the legal limit of gravel. Cal/OSHA has a six month deadline to complete a probe of the deadly incident.
