A disabled vehicle left in the carpool lane on the 605 in Whittier in the early morning of Thursday, March 28th was the catalyst in a string of accidents that killed two. When everything was over, five vehicles were involved in the crash.

The first accident at around 2:23 a.m. at Beverly Boulevard. A vehicle southbound on the 605 struck the center divider, leaving it disabled in the carpool lane. The driver walked off the freeway. Soon after, four other cars were entangled. Some cars failed to see the disabled vehicle, crashing into it. Others crashed into those vehicles. Two of the drivers were killed in the crash. A third person was injured.

The southbound 605 was closed for hours as a result of the crash.
