Do not admit fault. Do not talk to anyone except for a police officer and to gather basic information. This includes attorneys or anyone else who may approach you at the scene and offer their card. Not only is it not wise to talk to them, but it is against the law for them to approach you in this way. Do not talk to the insurance company for other parties involved in the accident until you have secured your own auto accident attorney.

Car Traveling at Unsafe Speeds Leads to the Death of a Beloved Taft ResidentDecember 26, 2019 – the day after Christmas – is a date that the family of David Mora will remember the rest of their lives. It is the day that an unfortunate car accident with a tractor-trailer took his life. At The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker we are representing the family as they look to find justice and closure for this terrible event.

The Accident in Question

David Mora, a 56-year-old man from Taft, was involved in a collision with a tractor trailer. According to the California Highway Patrol, Leslie Billings, a 41-year-old woman from Colorado, was on Highway 138, driving a 2006 Hyundai. She was driving too fast for weather conditions and lost control of her vehicle at around 4:30 PM. Near 90th Street West. After losing control, her vehicle crossed into eastbound traffic lanes. At that point, her vehicle collided with a 2007 Freightliner big rig.

Billings Was Not Alone in the Vehicle

Mr. Mora was traveling in the backseat of the vehicle Billings was driving. He was fatally injured and declared dead at the scene of the accident. Another passenger, Jonni Wallace, a 41-year-old from Colorado, was in the front seat of the Hyundai. She also suffered serious injuries and was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital.

The driver of the Hyundai, Billings, also suffered tractor-trailer injuries and was taken to the same facility. The Highway Patrol reported that the driver of the big rig, 49-year-old Carlos Hurtado from Los Angeles, did not suffer serious injuries.

A Personal Injury Claim May Be the Only Way to Hold the Negligent Party Accountable

While the police have not yet confirmed that charges will not be filed, the truth is that the victims and their families do not have any control over whether or not criminal charges will be brought. What they can do is ensure that appropriate civil action is taken. Namely, that a personal injury claim is filed.
