San Diego, CA (May 1, 2024) – A car accident in Oceanside on Interstate 5 killed two military officials. The authorities identified the victims as Cpl. Jacob Johnson, 21, and LCpl. Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano, 19. According to ABC10, the incident happened on April 25.

A car accident in Oceanside last week left two Camp Pendleton-based Marines dead.

Recently, officials from the 1st Marine Logistics Group identified the victims as Cpl. Jacob Johnson and LCpl. Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano. According to them, both served in the 1st Maintenance Battalion. 

In addition, the officials released a statement saying, “The command is heartbroken by the accident and doing everything possible to support those grieving this loss.”

Reportedly, the California Highway Patrol dispatched officers and paramedics to the southbound lanes of I-5, near Cockleburr Road, at about 9 p.m., responding to a two-vehicle collision.

According to CHP officials, the Cpl. Jacob Johnson, 21, was behind the wheel of a silver Hyundai Genesis. Unexpectedly, the car swerved right, onto the shoulder, where it crashed into a stationary Kenworth truck tractor.

Unfortunately, Cpl. Jacob Johnson and the front-seat passenger, LCpl. Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano, 19, were declared dead at the scene.

Thankfully, there were no other injuries or deaths.
