“It’s important to me that people learn everything they can about these car seats,” Victorville CHP Officer Matt Hunt said.

Many parents or expectant parents are often unaware of the laws, or the basic installation measures needed to ensure that a car seat is the safest place for a child to be during a car crash. Studies show that nearly 70% of children secured in child safety seats are improperly buckled.

The laws regarding child safety seats are changing in California . Starting next year, children under 2 years old, weighing less than 40 pounds, and less than 40 inches tall must be secured in a rear-facing car seat. Today the law states that children under the age of 8 years old must be secured in a booster seat or car seat located in the back seat.
