If you’re planning on a peaceful drive on the 405 through the Long Beach or Garden Grove area this weekend, think again! Interstate 405 from the 605 to Valley View will be completely closed in both directions starting at 9 p.m. Saturday, August 17th and ending at 5 p.m. Sunday, August 18th.

The planned closure is about a 3.5 mile stretch of freeway linking Interstate 405 with Interstate 605 and State Route 22. An estimated 350,000 vehicles use this stretch of freeway on the weekend, making it one of the busiest areas in the country. During the closure, workers will destroy the bridge currently used to exit the 405 South to take the 22 East. A new traffic pattern will exist when the freeway is reopened.

Detoured vehicles will clog the surface streets of Long Beach, Garden Grove, Westminster, and Huntington Beach. Authorities have distributed 67,000 fliers to residents and businesses in the area. Streets affected could include Beach Boulevard, Westminster Avenue / 2nd Street, Valley View / Bolsa Chica, Studebaker, Willow / Katella, and Garden Grove Boulevard.

The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker would like to reiterate the advice of Caltrans and the Orange County Transportation Authority. If you have to drive this weekend, plan ahead! Avoid this area of the 405 freeway from Saturday night until Sunday evening.
