A big rig slammed into a CalTrans truck and a van parked on the shoulder for highway cleanup on the 60 Freeway Wednesday, September 18th. The crash occurred on the eastbound 60 past Grand Avenue in Diamond Bar around 10 a.m. Nine people were injured.

Two CalTrans employees and two members of a freeway cleanup team were standing near the van when the crash occurred. Four other members of the cleanup team were inside the CalTrans truck. The big rig rammed the CalTrans truck, which was pushed into the van. A pickup truck driving by at the time of the crash was sprayed with debris. The big rig driver was extracted from the semi and taken to USC Medical Hospital by helicopter with serious injuries. Six other victims were taken to local hospitals with moderate injuries.

The 60 Freeway had lane closures resulting from the accident until 9 p.m., severely impacting traffic. The cause of the big rig crash was under investigation.
