An SUV being pursued by Border Patrol near Tuscon overturned late Saturday, April 20th, killing five and injuring at least 12. The Chevrolet Tahoe was fleeing from authorities and may have been carrying 22 passengers.

The chase apparently began after the Border Patrol attempted to stop the Tahoe for an immigration check. The SUV didn’t stop. The driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle around 9 p.m. Saturday night on Interstate 10 at the Highway 83 off-ramp, rolling the SUV.

Conflicting reports have indicated that the SUV was carrying either 18 or 22 people. In addition to the five persons killed in the crash, an additional 12 or 17 were taken to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries. Some victims required airlift.
There have been multiple conflicting reports of the crash details. Authorities are investigating the incident.
