One person was injured after two workers climbed a ladder to inspect the roof of a Chevron gas island when the roof collapsed underneath one of the workers on the afternoon of Monday, February 8th. The roof collapse occurred around 3:00 p.m. at the corner of Artesia Boulevard and Prairie Avenue in Torrance.

According to authorities, the workers were on the roof performing cleaning and maintenance work when the roof collapsed. One of the workers surfed the falling roof to the ground, suffering only minor injuries in the process. The second worker was standing on a portion of the roof that did not collapse. Two vehicles were trapped under the collapsed roof, but no additional injuries were reported.

The cause of the roof collapse is under investigation. City inspectors were called to the scene to assess what may have happened.
