Five people were injured after an early winter storm struck Southern California, producing a massive dust storm near Bakersfield that caused a 20-car crash midday Monday, November 2nd. The pile up occurred right around Noon on Highway 99 near Bear Mountain Boulevard.
According to authorities, the dust storm reduced the visibility of Highway 99 to near zero, creating dangerous driving conditions. At some point during the storm, 20 vehicles were involved in a pileup on the southbound lanes, backing up traffic for miles after lanes were closed. There were no serious injuries, but five people were taken to local hospitals.
