The first fatality from the February 24th Metrolink train derailment crash in Oxnard has been reported. The train’s engineer has died from his injuries. The engineer has been identified as Glenn William Steele, 62. Steele was a 40-year veteran of the rail industry and was Metrolink’s longest tenured engineer.

The driver of the truck that was abandoned on the track, Jose Alejandro Sanchez-Ramirez, 52, is not currently facing charges at this time. According to his attorney, after accidentally driving his truck on to the train tracks, he was unable to get his vehicle off the tracks.

The incident still remains under investigation.
