Winter weather across Southern California affected the roadways from south Orange County to the San Fernando Valley to Big Bear over the past weekend. Flash floods on the freeways and snow in the mountains led to numerous crashes and lane closures.
The recent weather brought some much sought after snow to the mountain communities of Southern California, but also brought some very difficult driving conditions. Highway 38 was shut down at Angelus Oaks Sunday afternoon for over three hours after numerous crashes were reported. According to the CHP, vehicles had trouble gaining traction on the winding highway, including a big rig tanker that drove off the road and ended up against a guardrail near Seven Oaks.
Heavy rain in Los Angeles and Orange counties caused floods on many major freeways and transition areas just after midnight. Due to flash flooding, the 110 South closed all but the express lanes between Redondo Beach Boulevard and the 105. The 134 West transition to the 5 North near Griffith Park was affected by debris-filled drainage. And further south, flooding was reported on the 5 North near the 405 split.
