The 5 Freeway through the Grapevine was closed for six-hours Friday morning after heavy rain and snow forced its closure, and more rain and snow was expected throughout the day.

Numerous car accidents were reported due to the weather. Between midnight and 9:00 a.m. Friday morning, California Highway Patrol had received over 300 reports of vehicle incidents, nearly four times the normal rate. Many freeways were affected. Friday morning saw a car facing the the wrong way on the center divider on the 101 Freeway, a seven-vehicle crash on the 605 Freeway, an overturned car on the 110 Freeway, and a big rig truck accident on the 5 Freeway north of State Route 134.
