Around 9:40 AM on Thursday, January 17th, an 84-year-old woman was taking a walk near her home in Jarupa Valley when she was attacked by two pit bulls near 54th and Beach Street. The two pit bulls escaped a neighbor’s yard by crawling under a fence. Witnesses reported that the pit bulls nearly left the woman for dead. Neighbors called 911 and the woman was taken to Riverside Community Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

The owner of the dogs was found and the dogs were subsequently impounded. It is unclear if the dogs will be euthanized. In the wake of this dog attack, authorities from the Riverside County Department of Animal Services have issued reminders that pet owners are responsible for the actions of their animals and that properties with big dogs should always have a secure wall or fence.
