3 Situations in Which You May Not Need to Hire a Personal Injury Attorney After an Accident

There are two extremes of thinking when it comes to hiring a personal injury attorney after a car accident. Some people will believe they should always hire an attorney while others will never consider hiring an attorney. Of course, the best advice lies between these two extremes. While you can always call The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker for a free legal consultation, the following are three situations that may not require the services of a personal injury attorney.

  1. No One Was Injured
  2. The term “personal injury” contains the word injury for a reason – for a case to be valid it generally requires an injury. If the accident resulted in your car being totaled then you may not need to work with an attorney. Note that this is not always the case. For example, if your vehicle was totaled and the insurance company claims you were at fault, or their insured was not, then you may need an attorney to prove your case.

That said, generally speaking, if you are involved in an accident in which there was damage to property but not injury to a person, then it is likely that you do not need an attorney.

  3. You Were at Fault for the Accident
  4. If you were at fault for the accident and had car insurance, then your car insurance company is already fighting for you. They will be the ones on the hook for the settlement if you do not win. As a result, you can count on them fighting as hard as possible to reduce your liability amount. This is not something you would generally turn to a personal injury attorney for help with.

  5. The Injury Was Minor
  6. If your injury was nothing more than a few scratches and a bruise, then you likely do not need to work with a personal injury attorney. If you did not require hospitalization then you probably do not need to work with an attorney. Once again, there are exceptions to this rule. For example, if you suffered a minor injury, but it became infected and caused severe injury, then you may need to work with an attorney to prove that the accident caused the resulting injury.
