There have been a lot of news stories and announcements about the recent Takata airbag recall. More than 50 models from 10 different auto manufacturers, totaling 7.8 million vehicles, have been recalled. The full list of affected vehicles is extensive.

With replacement parts scarce, California and Arizona are low on the recall priority list. The airbag defect is most likely to occur in hot, humid climates, so the Gulf Coast, Hawaii, and island territories are receiving the most attention. It could take months for recalled vehicles in California to be repaired.

The massive Takata recall, along with the recent General Motors ignition switch recall, is likely to receive significant government attention. The entire recall process could be re-examined.

For an explanation of the recall, see this article in Wired.
