Two teenage boys and three teenage girls, all from Irvine, were killed in a devastating single-car crash in the early evening of Memorial Day, May 27th. The crash occurred at Jamboree Road and Island Lagoon Drive in Newport Beach.

Authorities believe speed was a factor in the crash. Around 5:20 p.m., the driver of an Infiniti sedan traveling at a high rate of speed lost control of the vehicle, exited the road, and slammed into a tree. Four of the vehicle’s occupants were ejected from the vehicle and died instantaneously. A fifth was partially ejected and was taken to a nearby hospital before succumbing to injuries.

The stretch of Jamboree where the accident occurred has a posted speed limit of 55, but witnesses informed authorities that cars typically travel faster than that. Authorities are investigating whether or not drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Additional information about the victims of the crash are expected to be released Tuesday afternoon.
