Five people, including a suspected DUI driver, were severely injured after a vehicle jumped a median, striking three vehicles head-on in the early evening of Wednesday, August 19th. The crash occurred on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles Mid-City around 6:00 p.m.

According to authorities, the driver of a Nissan Altima traveling west on Venice sideswiped another vehicle and jumped the median. Three vehicles traveling east were struck by the Altima in a high-speed crash.

From all of the involved vehicles, three men and two women suffered critical injuries. The drivers of the eastbound vehicles were taken to a local hospital. The driver of the Altima had to be extricated from her car, and was then taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities believe the Altima driver was under the influence.

The crash closed the eastbound lanes of Venice Boulevard between Fairfax and Thurman for several hours for investigation and cleanup.
