21 people were injured, at least four critically, after a bus carrying 22 women to a women’s church retreat in Big Bear overturned on Highway 330 just north of Highland Avenue on the afternoon of Sunday, May 22nd. It was initially reported that 50 people were on the bus with 26 injuries. The bus was the last vehicle in a caravan associated with the church Ministerios Llamada Final. None of the other buses in the convoy saw the incident.

According to witnesses and authorities, the crash began when the bus accidentally sideswiped a wall before rear-ending a Nissan Versa. The bus nearly went off a cliff before striking a large rock, slowing its momentum. The bus stopped on its side across both lanes of the Highway. Witnesses on board believe the brakes on the vehicle may have malfunctioned prior to hitting the wall. Authorities will be examining the brakes of the 2000 El Dorado bus.

The crash closed Highway 330 between Highland Avenue and the City Creek Fire Station for the emergency response. The incident remains under investigation.
