A crash on the northbound I-5 in Irvine claimed the lives of two people and injured five others early Thursday, April 24th. The five-vehicle collision occurred around 4:40 a.m. near Jamboree. The left three lanes were closed on Interstate 5 and a SigAlert was issued for the accident from about 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.

The deceased have only been identified as a woman in her 40s and a man in his 50s. Both deceased victims were in a Toyota sedan which appears to have been t-boned by a larger Astro van. Four others were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries and one person refused treatment. In all, five vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction crash.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
