A black BMW 530 traveling south on the 5 North for miles before crashing into a 2000 Ford Expedition, killing both drivers and injuring four passengers, including two children, early Sunday, July 26th. The crash occurred around 12:53 a.m. near Tehama Avenue south of Red Bluff, in Gerber.

According to authorities, the wrong-way driver drove at least four miles in the wrong direction. The crash was particularly violent, with the BMW catching fire. Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and were killed in the crash. CHP was able to remove four other passengers from the Ford SUV, including two children, ages 7 and 10. The injured passengers were taken to Mercy Medical Center and Saint Elizabeth.

The driver of the SUV was only identified as a 74-year-old woman from Milpitas. The wrong-way driver was only identified as a woman. Authorities continue to investigate why the driver of the BMW was traveling in the wrong direction.
