A child believed to be about 18 months old was injured and its parents were killed in a killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 15 in Corona on the evening of Saturday, August 15th.

A child believed to be about 18 months old was injured and its parents were killed in a killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 15 in Corona on the evening of Saturday, August 15th. The cause of the crash remains a mystery. The deceased victims were identified as Jose de Jesus Ibarra-Espinoza, 32, and Rosio Ibarra, 26, both of Lake Elsinore.

The crash occurred around 7:50 p.m. on the northbound 15 Freeway just past Ontario Avenue. For unknown reasons, the Chevy Tahoe, driven by Ibarra-Espinoza, crashed into a granite embankment and rolled over several times. Neither adult was wearing a seatbelt. The child, in the backseat along with Ibarra, was in an unsecured safety seat, which was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. The child was found, still in the safety seat, on the shoulder of the freeway. The child was said to have serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities are still investigating whether or not another vehicle may have been involved. Police are still seeking information about the crash. The crash resulted in the closure of the 15 North for two hours.
