Early in the morning on Sunday, January 6th, a 23 year-old woman from Taft, California died in a single-vehicle accident near Buttonwillow. Jamie Renee Tweedy was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident after she was ejected from her Jeep when it overturned. A passenger, 24 year-old Tevis Stephens of Buttonwillow was also ejected from the Jeep, but only suffered moderate injuries. He was flown to Kern Medical Center for treatment.

The accident occurred after the driver lost control of her vehicle after it drifted off the road. The accident occurred on Elk Hills Road near Skyline Road. It is not believed that Tweedy was under the influence during the accident. The CHP investigation into the accident is ongoing.
