A street race in Chatsworth turned deadly after a driver lost control of a modified Ford Mustang and crashed into a crowd of spectators on the sidewalk early Thursday, February 26th. The crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Plummer Street and Canoga Avenue. The area is known as an illegal street racing hot spot.

According to witnesses who stayed on scene, a group of spectators were watching a street race when one of the participants lost control and drove on the sidewalk, crashing into the crowd. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene and another victim died at a local hospital. A third victim was hospitalized in critical condition.

Fresh tire marks were visible at the scene, and witnesses confirmed with authorities that a street race was occurring at the time of the crash. The driver of the modified Mustang, a 20-something male, fled the scene.
