A fatal, head-on collision in Valley Center left one person dead and four people injured in the late morning of Monday, April 1st. The crash occurred on a rural two way road.

According to authorities, a man driving a Toyota Camry was driving west on Valley Center Road, just past Vesper Road when he crossed the median, causing a head-on collision with a Chrysler minivan. The driver of the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The minivan was being driven by a La Mesa man. His wife was in the passenger seat and their twin 7-year-old sons were in the back. Rescuers cut the roof off the minivan to extract the injured family. The parents were taken by helicopter to Palomar Hospital and the children were taken by helicopter to Rady Children’s Hospital.

The cause of the collision is under investigation, but authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs to be a factor.
