The mayor of Murrieta was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after rear-ending a vehicle carrying four local high school cheerleaders returning home from a pep rally on Thursday, October 16th. According to authorities, the four girls suffered moderate to major injuries and were taken to local hospitals.

The crash occurred around 8:18 p.m. Thursday evening. The mayor, Alan Long, 44, was driving south on Jefferson Avenue in a pick-up truck when he crashed into the teens. According to police, Long showed behavior consistent with alcohol impairment. Long subsequently failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. Long’s attorney insists he was beneath the legal limit for blood-alcohol content.

Mayor Long was released on $50,000 bail.
