Merck & Co. has agreed to pay $100 million to settle thousands of lawsuits alleging that the vaginal contraceptive NuvaRing® causes blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes. Numerous studies have shown that the specific type of progestin used in NuvaRing® is twice as likely to cause blood clots. Plaintiffs allege that Merck failed to warn about the increased risks. Merck updated the label of NuvaRing® in October.

The settlement encompasses about 3,800 women who have filed federal lawsuits or state lawsuits in Missouri or New Jersey. In a separate but similar case, Bayer AG has paid over $1.6 billion to settle similar claims of blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks for their birth control products Yaz® and Yasmin®. The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker and our team of medical device attorneys are handling dozens of birth control injury lawsuits.

If you or a loved one has suffered a blood clot, heart attack, or stroke while on NuvaRing®, contact The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker today at (800) 333-0000 for a free consultation. You may be entitled to compensation.
